Hand Embroidery Artists you HAVE to Follow

If you’ve been following our Inspirational Artists series you’ll know how this works. In a bid to inspire and delight we’ve trawled the web and social media platforms like Instagram to share with some great artists and makers. And we have some truly groundbreaking, innovative and breathtaking work to share with you today.

Hand Embroidery was once associated with the elderly; a hobby for mature women. We probably all remember our mothers and grandmothers smocking our dresses and churning out embroidered hankies and cross-stitched greeting cards. However, thanks largely to the craft revolution there are thousands of artists, crafters and independent makers who are excelling at exhibiting their own work and living off commissions. These are just some of our favourites who are continually raising the bar with their creativity.

1. Jennifer Lamontagne

Boston based artist Jennifer Lamontagne is a painter and embroiderer. Texture, vivid colours, detailed compositions are the driving force behind her creations and are typically based on her memories and landscapes. As well as exhibitions her work is available to purchase from her site. We would recommend subscribing to her newsletter for the latest news about forth-coming workshops and exhibition dates.

2. Pipper Haynes

Pipper Haynes is the owner of Wiltshire based embroidery studio, Lemon Pepper Studio. Her intricate, nature inspired embroideries are packed with enchantment and are adored by a large fan base world-wide. Although her pieces are based on traditional themes such as nature, flowers and mushrooms she adds a modern twist to her 3D stumpwork embroideries by displaying them in bell-jars as stand-alone works of art.
